The original photograph was taken on February 5th 1865 by Alexander Gardner. In 2006 artist James Nance meticulously colored the photograph. The resulting image is a unique work of art which retains the quality of the Gardner Print and brings President Lincoln to life through the subtle use of color. The image size is 11.5 by 13.5 inches and is reproduced utilizing the expensive Giclee printing process on a high quality, archival, textured watercolor art paper. The framing uses archival acid free double matting and a beautiful walnut wood frame with an engraved plaque. The print is protected by a heavy glass. Each print is signed and numbered by the artist. This framed print makes an excellent gift and will complement any home or office.

The entire package which includes the engraved name plate is shrink wrapped and ready for framing. This mask was taken live from Abraham Lincoln on March 31st 1860 by Sculptor Leonard Volk at his studio in Chicago. Over the decades there have been a wide variety of cheap plaster Volk masks available for purchase. Unfortunately every time a mold is made, small distortions occur, so after decades of molds made from molds, most commercial copies of the Volk mask are poor and almost unrecognizable. Our mold is superior and was carefully and painstakingly made using a distortion free, non-shrinking, modern material (Silicone) and cast directly from an early museum copy from the Volk studio. This totally faithful casting preserves all of the intimate features and nuisances of Lincoln's face. One can even see the pores of Lincoln's skin in the casting. Hand finished in a classic bronze patina, the Volk mask is a must for every Lincoln collector. There is no finer copy available anywhere.

More information and photos on this Mask This mask was taken live from Abraham Lincoln on February 11th 1865 by Sculptor Clark Mills at the White House just two months before Lincoln's assassination. Over the decades, there have been very few copies of the Mills mask commercially available Our mold is superior and was carefully and painstakingly made using a distortion free, non-shrinking, modern material (Silicone) and cast directly from a 1st generation copy of the original mask given to Lincoln's secretary John Hay. The difference between this mask and the Volk mask taken 5 years earlier is shocking. In the Volk mask, Lincoln is robust and vigorous, but in the Mills mask he has lost 25 pounds and looks ravaged and exhausted by the pressures of the Civil War. For this reason, many people mistakenly believe the Mills mask was taken in death. Hand finished in a classic bronze patina, this Volk mask is a must for every Lincoln collector. There is no finer copy available anywhere.

These two matched sculptures of Lincoln the Lawyer and Lincoln the President depict the profound changes in Abraham Lincoln's physical appearance during his presidency and the Civil war. The pressures of the presidency and his grief from the two million American Civil War causalities took a huge toll on Lincoln.
